You know the year is flying by when Memorial Day Weekend is almost here!! This brings good news for the young and young at heart since most summer time attractions start extending their day and hours of operations. If you live in New York, specifically the Brooklyn area, you know this to be true for one city treasure, today’s hot spot location; Coney Island.
Quick history lesson: In the 1880s, Coney Island was the largest amusement area in the United States, attracting several million visitors per year. At its height it contained several competing major amusement parks, Sea Lion Park, Luna Park, Dreamland, and Steeplechase Park, as well as many independent amusements. Astroland served as a major amusement park from 1962 to 2008, and was replaced by a new incarnation of Dreamland in 2009 and of Luna Park in 2010. The other parks and attractions include Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, 12th Street Amusements, and Kiddie Park, while the Eldorado Arcade has an indoor bumper car ride.
Today visitor can enjoy some of the old favorites as well as new upcoming rides. From the famous Nathan hot dog eating competitions to the Mermaid parades, no matter your age Coney Island is definitely place to visit, explore and enjoy.
