July 2, 2014

Happy Wednesday!! Its July 2nd can you believe it?? With the 4th of July rapidly approaching, this week’s hot spots are our top 5 locations (in no particular order) to spend Independence Day and/or weekend!!

Bristol, RI

The city of Bristol comes to life around the fourth. If you plan to be in the area you are in for a real treat. This marks the 229th Bristol, Rhode Island fourth of July Celebration. And a celebration it will be. From live music courtesy of the concert series, to the Rockwell Amusements Carnival to patriotic exercises to 4th of July parade, there’s something for all ages to enjoy.

Las Vegas, NV

Most people already think of Vegas as one big party. So how could they top themselves on the 4th? With an even bigger party!! If you’re looking for hotels, clubs, parties, shows, celebrities and fireworks Vegas has them all!! All Independence Day weekend they’ll be something for you to get into and have a great time. Coming with the kids? No worries, there are plenty of family friendly activities during the day to keep the kids occupied.

Gatlinburg, TN

Tennessee has great patriotic spirit!! If you’re trying to be part of the festivities when they start you’ll have to be a late owl or an early bird depending on how you look at it. Their 39th annual showcase parade starts at the stroke of midnight in the streets of Downtown. Retired Army Staff Sargent Heath Calhoun will be the Grand Marshal riding on the Rocky Top Sports World float.  Calhoun is a wounded warrior who competed in the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia.  Also featured in the parade will be the 100th Army Military Band and members of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. After the parade there is no time to sleep, be prepared to participate or watch the River Raft Regatta. The unmanned floatable race will start at the bridge at Christ in the Smokies Museum & Gardens at noon and the winners will be the first to reach the bridge at Ripley’s Aquarium.

New York

The City that never sleeps is sure not to disappoint this Independence Day. There is so much to do the question is will you have time to do it all! The 4th of July in NY means: BBQs, beaches, picnics and of course Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks. Speaking of  BBQs, what could be better than a BBQ on the 4th? How about a BBQ on the terrace of one the most chic hotels in the city with endless food and drinks? Yotel New York hotel in Hell’s Kitchen is hosting a 4th of July Endless Summer BBQ. Definitely something worth checking out!!

Washington DC

Some would say that Washington, DC is arguably the most patriotic place in America to celebrate Independence Day. Well it is quite festive 4th of July week, from musical performances to the festivals to the parade and don’t forget the fireworks spectacular. If you’re in the area today, head over to Tudor Place for their annual Independence Day Ice Cream Social. The ice cream social includes a tour of the house, a make-your-own-sundae bar in the garden and plenty of family-friendly games and crafts. Plus, all participants will receive a special copy of a rare, personal letter from Washington belonging to the Tudor Place archives.
